Occitanie is the southeastern coastal region of France that borders the Mediterranean along its east and forms part of the border with Spain to the south. Occitanie includes the cities of Toulouse and Montpellier and contains the Languedoc and Mid-Pyrenees areas. Most olive production takes place in the valleys of the Gard and Hérault rivers. Occitanie is the top area for organic food production in France, and holds over 1/4 of the country's total organic farmland. While the area is France's largest wine producing region, it's also the 2nd largest olive oil producing region after Provence. With an annual average of 1,200 tons, Occitanie produces 25% of French olive oil. The area is also responsible for 50% of French table olives. At Olive Oil Lovers the region of Occitanie is represented by Chateau de Montfrin, a company that farms organic olives in the fertile lands where the Gard meets the Rhône. Some olive varieties grown in this region include Aglandau, Arbequina, Arbosana, Calian, Coratina, Kappa, Lucques, Nîmes, Petit Ribier, Picholine, and Rosciola.
